Shawl Weaving is a course of 01 year duration. During the 01 year course the candidate will be able to understand and analyse the preparatory process of weaving like winding, warping and sizing. They will also be able to analyse various mechanisms of shuttle loom, like shedding, picking, heat up motion, take up and let off. In addition to this the candidate Is entrusted to do or make project work and extra curricular activities to build up confidence.
Nature and scope of shawl weaving:
The handloom weaving sector is one of the largest economy in India and a large employment generating sector. The handloom sector of India is known all over the world for its uniqueness and intricate designs. Tradition of hand sector is a part of our country’s cultural heritage and symbolises ability of the weavers to design intricate, artistic and attractive products by use of handlooms.
After Successful completion of training , certificates are being awarded to the students by national/State Council for Vocational trainig.Also a stipend of Rs 2000/- per month is provided to the trainee.
The work may involve:
- Weaving
- Warping and Winding
- Fabric designing (weaves)
- Calculation (Reed, Heald and Yarn)
- Dyeing
Career prospects:
Weaving technician has a wide scope of employability ranging from self employment, contractual employment to industrial jobs.
On successful completion of this course the candidate should be gainfully employed in the industries for the following occupation:
- Weaving master.
- Head Weaver (Handlooms).
- Supervisor (industrial sector).
- Worker cum winder.
- Master dyer or dye instructor.
- Designer.
- Fabric finisher.
